Adventures in DIY Cleaning
22 May
Lately I have been feeling ‘pinspired’ to create my own cleaning solution. Why? Because it is cheap and non-toxic and green. Also because I’m not good at cleaning so I figured this would help me be awesome at cleaning. And I think I was right!
You can check out these links to see lots of combinations of natural ingredients for different types of cleaning projects.
I kind of took all of this information and decided to make my own concoction for an all purpose cleaner. I purchased a plastic spray bottle from Target which actually has some cleaning recipes printed right on the bottle, so obviously this trend is catching on.
I filled it up with 1 part warm water and 1 part distilled white vinegar.
I also dropped in a couple of tablespoons of Dr. Bronner’s soap for good measure. Hey, if John and Sherry use it, then it must be awesome! This was the most expensive thing I bought and I’m not certain it was entirely necessary, but it has so many uses (you can water it down and use as hand soap and even face wash) I figured it wouldn’t hurt to have it on hand. And the ingredients are pretty awesome.
I used this solution by itself on the countertop, vanity, shower door and toilets. I sprinkled some baking powder before spraying on the tub and shower floor and sink for some extra scrubbing power.
It was a success!! Got rid of soap scum, stains, and just got everything squeaky clean. Oh yeah and I used a microfiber cloth for scrubbing everything (except the toilet, used the toilet brush for that). I haven’t tried it on glass yet, but when I do I think I will use vinegar and water without the added soap.
I feel a lot better that I’m not breathing in tons of crazy fumes when cleaning now. Do you have any other good recipes for DIY cleaners?

I’m so glad you are back! I love getting on here and reading your post. I might have to make my own cleaning solution as well. Sounds like it’s working out great.
Thanks Stacey, it is good to be back! Thank you for reading :)
Hi! I’m lovin reading your blog, Leah. And I had to chuckle when I found myself laughing and nodding to your John and Sherry reference…I love them! They are pretty much geniuses in my book.
Andrea – I know right?? Haha. Thank you so much for reading and commenting!!
