Cutting Edge

26 Sep

Inspiration for a good outfit can come from anywhere. To help yourself get out of your own fashion rut, stop and really analyze someone you admire and what they are doing. Don’t think of it as copying, think of it as being inspired.

The other day, my hairdresser was wearing the most adorable outfit. A long fitted striped dress, topped with a turquoise necklace and denim vest. These are items I would never normally wear, but she inspired me to think outside my own jeans and  tee shirt box.

In addition to replicating her look, I’ve also made a different version perfect for cooler months. Don’t forget to always keep your eye out for your own fashion inspiration!

New Shoes from Target

18 Mar

As much as I hate to admit it, my little darling puppy has now ruined two pairs of shoes. The first were an ooold tan pair from Payless and now a wine-colored pair from Target. I decided to hit up Target to see if I could find some replacements (who doesn’t love an excuse for shoe shopping).

I purchased two pairs - a black wedge peep toe and a nude pump. I’m really happy with both, I will just have to keep them FAR away from you know who!

I think this wedge looks a little cuter in person, but really I bought it because it is practical. I know that for work, I tend to throw on comfortable shoes so I knew these would get a lot of use. But I think they’ll look cute with jeans too, for a little bit of height.

This pump is sold out online, so I was lucky to find my size at the store! I think it’s so cute!!

I also spotted these sandals in the store. They come in teal, yellow, purple, brown and black. The only size they had left was size 5. That was probably a good thing because I wanted a pair in every color!

Switching gears to get the best deals

25 Feb

Even though the temp here is in the teens today (UGH!) all I can seem to think about is spring, summer, bikinis and being poolside! So naturally I want to shop for those kinds of outfits. But if I truly want to save some money, I should still be in winter mode.

Coat and boot prices are slashed despite the fact it is definitey STILL winter and you will still be able to get decent wear out of items this season. Not to mention you will have some relatively new-to-you items to pull out or your closet next time winter comes rolling in.

Where to shop:

Check out Victoria’s Secret, Alloy, Express, New York & Company and Nordstrom for some great deals on coats.

For boots, check out Aldo, Piperlime, DSW and Steve Madden.

My picks:

This amazing looking coat from NY&C for only $19.99?? (Note: large fur thing is removeable and it also comes in black)

More coat picks – all under $100!!

And my picks for boots – all under $50!!!

Word to the wise – sizes will be limited but don’t get discouraged, a great deal is out there for you!!

Never fear, lower wedge options are here!

Rachel made this comment on my previous wedge post:

Uh guys…how do you wear wedges if you are already 10 ft tall w/a 5 foot tall husband? Help!

Now, I happen to know she is exaggerating just a bit about their height issue, but just wanted to show some lower wedge options as well. Let me know your thoughts!

Also, if anybody has any requests or specific things you would like to see on the blog, please message me my the ‘contact’ tab at the top of the page, or in the comment section.

 Thanks!

Finding the perfect wedge

8 Feb

Wedges are my absolute favorite type of shoe, they are so comfortable and versatile. They can go from casual to dressy and are perfect for outdoor events because there is no heel to sink into the grass! However, not every wedge is created equal! Here are some rules I try to follow when finding the perfect wedge:

  • I try to keep the heel hight at 4″ or under and a platform of 1″ or under, too much higher and it just looks like a big boat on your foot
  • I try to stay away from ankle straps because I think that cuts off the line of the leg, but then again I don’t have super long legs to start with
  • I like for the overall look of the shoe to be simple and natural, so I stick to cork, wood or woven materials with little embellishment. But to each their own!

Here is a super-cute option that fits the bill:

This shoe is currently selling for $79.95 from Endless.com. However, if you click HERE you can purchase from 6pm.com for only $19.99!

Always search 6pm.com before purchasing shoes online because I have found they almost always have the lower price!
